Alkaline Phosphatase (AP)

Liver · AP, ALP

Typical Reference RangeFrauen 35–105, Männer 40–130 U/l
UnitU/l

What This Value Measures

Alkaline phosphatase is an enzyme found primarily in the liver, bile ducts, and bones. The level helps narrow down diseases of these organs.

Elevated Value

An elevated level may indicate impaired bile flow or processes in bone metabolism.

Low Value

Low levels are rare and usually of little significance.

Note: Naturally higher in children and during pregnancy.

Reference ranges are typical guide values for adults and vary depending on the laboratory, measurement method, age and sex — always compare with the range stated on your own report. A value outside the range does not automatically mean an illness, and a value within the range does not rule one out. The trend and overall picture are usually more informative than a single value. The doctor's assessment is always decisive.
