This list shows what is generally recommended for this age group in Switzerland. The entries vary in how binding they are — the label indicates what a recommendation is based on. Whether something applies to you personally is for your doctor to assess.

Vaccinations

  • Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (dTpa)Booster every 10–20 years (more frequently in old age)
    Officially recommended (BAG/EKIF)

Basic protection for everyone. Under the standard schedule, given as dTpa at age 25, then against diphtheria and tetanus (dT) at 45 and from 65, and every 10 years from age 65. Since no pure dT vaccine is currently available, a dTpa combination vaccine is also used for this in practice. Additionally, vaccination against pertussis is given during every pregnancy and for close contact with infants.

  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)2 doses — catch-up vaccination if incomplete
    Officially recommended (BAG/EKIF)

Recommended for everyone born in 1964 or later without two documented doses.

  • TBE (Tick-borne Encephalitis)Primary immunization, booster every 10 years
    Officially recommended (BAG/EKIF)

Recommended for everyone living in risk areas or spending time outdoors there (almost all of Switzerland).

Early Detection

  • Cervix (PAP/HPV Smear)Every 3 years (from age 30 also as HPV test)
    Recommended by a medical society

For women aged 21 and over, at the gynecological practice. From age 30, alternatively as an HPV test.

  • Skin Cancer CheckAnnually if at risk, otherwise if symptoms occur
    Depending on individual risk

Monitor moles; medical check recommended for many moles, fair skin type, or family history.

Check-ups & Preventive Care

  • Blood Pressure CheckRegularly, at least every few years
    Recommended by a medical society

High blood pressure often goes unnoticed. Simple measurement at a doctor's office or pharmacy.

  • Cholesterol & Blood SugarBased on medical assessment, advisable from age 40
    Depending on individual risk

Assess cardiovascular and diabetes risk — especially with a family history.

  • Dental Check-upGenerally annually
    May be worthwhile

Not covered by basic insurance — but important for health.

  • Eye & Eye Pressure CheckEvery few years from age 40
    May be worthwhile

Early detection of glaucoma and vision changes.

  • Pregnancy CareFor family planning / pregnancy
    Recommended by a medical society

Check-ups and counseling related to family planning, pregnancy, and childbirth.

This is guidance based on the official recommendations (Swiss vaccination schedule of the BAG/EKIF as well as early detection recommendations). Whether a vaccination, examination or check-up is appropriate for you is a decision you make together with your doctor — depending on medical history, risk factors and vaccination status. As of 1 January 2026, vaccinations covered by mandatory basic insurance are exempt from the Franchise; the 10 percent co-payment remains.

Where These Recommendations Come From

The basis is the Swiss Vaccination Schedule (BAG and Federal Commission for Vaccination Questions) as well as early detection recommendations from the BAG and professional societies. FindMyDoc presents them in an understandable way — they do not replace individual medical advice.
